What Your Student's Schedule May Look Like Next Year
Superintendent Bregy will put a dollar amount next to the different options for the high school and middle school restructuring plan at the May 9 school board meeting.
The cost amount for the proposed middle school and high school restructuring options will be presented at Mondays D300 school board meeting.
At recent meetings, Superintendent Michael Bregy has outlined several different possibilities for how to help save the district $5 million in budget shortfalls.
On the agenda for the May 9 meeting, is the third presentation for the high school and middle school restructuring plan, as well as the discussion of special education program changes.

Last month in a 4-3 vote, the former school board voted to lay off 363 educators, as well as look into restructuring the middle schools and high schools. Since that vote, in the April 4 election: Monica Clark and Karen Plaza.
Depending on the reorganization option selected, with call backs, the final reduction of teachers will range from 75-150, with an estimated cost of savings ranging from $3.9 million to $7.8 million.

According to an article in the Courier-News, D300 Superintendent Michael Bregy said the district began looking at reorganization options because the secondary school structure has not been reviewed since it was implemented in 1996.
The next school board meeting will be held Monday, May 9 at 7:30 p.m. at the Professional Development Center at Westfield Community School, 2100 Sleepy Hollow Road, Algonquin.
Proposed Middle School Options
Currently, the high school schedule has four 85-minute blocks in each of its four terms. Other options presented include longer, but fewer blocks. Moving to a two-semester schedule, with a varying amount of time periods, was also discussed.

New School Board
Four community members took their oaths of office last month to serve 4-year terms on the District 300 School Board:
- Incumbent Joe Stevens
- Newcomer Steve Fiorentino
- Susie Kopacz, who had previously served on the Board from 2003-07.
- Incumbent Chris Stanton
The new board unanimously elected 14-year board veteran Anne Miller to serve as Board President. Former board President Joe Stevens will continue to work with Miller as the Board's representatives in ongoing negotiations with labor groups.
Karen Roeckner was unanimously elected as Board Secretary, a role that Miller had held for the past several years.
With his prior knowledge and approval, Chris Stanton was unanimously elected to serve as board Vice President.
