Students, Staff Recognized at D300 School Board Meeting

Various accomplishments were acknowledged during the District 300 Committee of a Whole meeting.

Several area students and District 300 staff were recognized for various accomplishments during the District 300 Committee of a Whole meeting Monday night.

Some of those accomplishments included:

  • Laura Saldivar, a senior at , and Ali Sanders, a senior at Dundee-Crown High School, spoke to the board about the recent Building Bridges leadership academy that was held in memory of Dundee-Crown High School senior Christian Stilwell who died unexpectedly last April from a brain lesion. The teens helped organize the event that was held at Hampshire High School in March. In total, 120 area teens participated in the leadership academy. The leadership academy was a dream of Stilwell’s, Sanders told the board. Saldivar said the leadership academy helped  students recognize bullying as an issue at their high school and within a week after the academy, the students implemented a peer mentorship program to help combat the issue.
  • Principal Tamara Poole recognized a handful of fourth-grades and kindergartners at Monday's meeting. She told the school board the fourth-graders had stepped up to help kindergarten students get their lunches. Poole introduced all the students at the meetings and the students shook board member hands.
  • Staffers from three District 300 schools were recognized for receiving perfect PBIS Schoolwide Evaluation Tool scores. Those schools are Lakewood School, and DeLacey Family Education Center. Schoolwide Evaluation Tools are designed to assess and evaluate features of schoolwide effective behavior support across each academic school year, according to the PBIS website. Visit the PBIS site to learn more about Schoolwide Evaluation Tools.
