Lakewood School Girls Dare to Be Rare

Fifth- and sixth-grade girls will become members of the "FBI" at the annual Lakewood School retreat.

Today, more than 300 fifth- and sixth-grade girls at Lakewood School will become members of the “FBI” as we help send the message of friendship, beauty, and independence to these young girls!

“Dare to Be Rare” is an annual retreat just for the Lakewood School girls that teaches students how to better themselves and become strong and intelligent young women.

This special night includes guest speakers and fun-filled activities that give the girls bonding experiences and the opportunity to discover their own self-growth, through the planned activities.

Throughout the course of the night, the girls will discover their inner and physical strength by running through an inflatable obstacle course, build their confidence through participating in kickboxing, listening to guest speakers and much more.

This is a very unique and special event that Lakewood School offers its students every year. The Lakewood teachers and staff help put this special night together. In the past, we have also had volunteers from both Carpentersville Middle School’s Beta Club and Dundee-Crown High School’s National Honor Society, as well as student volunteers from Elgin Community College.

The boys will have their special retreat, “Man In Demand” the following week starting at 2:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 30, at Lakewood School.

Lakewood School is a fifth- and sixth-grade building, and a Title I school that has 90 percent of its students participating in the “Free and Reduced Lunch” program.
