Gators' Bower Named to 2012 All-State Hockey Team

Joey Bower, a center for the Crystal Lake South Gators Hockey Club, joins an elite group of Illinois high school players selected for Amateur Hockey Association of Illinois' All-State team.

The Amateur Hockey Association of Illinois recently announced that Crystal Lake South Gators Hockey Club forward Joey Bower was selected to the 2012 AHAI High School All-State team.

Bower, a senior at Crystal Lake South High School, plays center for the Crystal Lake South Gators varsity hockey team, where he also serves as varsity team captain.

A member of the Gators club for four years, Bower leads the varsity team in total points and assists this season, and he is second in goals. This season, Bower has made 32 goals and 53 assists for a total of 85 points, according to Crystal Lake South stats.

He recently played in his 155th career varsity game, and he is the sixth all-time leading scorer in Gator history. To date, Bower has 69 career goals and 124 assists for 193 career points, according to Crystal Lake South hockey stats.

As a freshman, Bower participated in the Junior Varsity Metro Central All-Star game. This year, as a senior, Bower was named to the Varsity All-Metro Central team.

Bower is one of only two players from the area selected to the boys high school All-State team. Varsity coaches select the team, which comprises 40 total players from throughout Illinois.

The other player, Nick Samuels, is a defenseman from Prairie Ridge, according to AHAI.

The boys All-Staters hale from various high schools including New Trier Green, Glenbrook South, Loyola Academy Gold, Naperville Central, Carmel Catholic, Barrington, St. Rita, Benet, Stevenson, Waubonsie and St. Viator.

The Boys All-Star team was scheduled to play at 8:35 p.m. Monday, Feb. 6, at the AHAI Hockey Center in Bensenville.
