Pet CPR & First Aid Class: What You Know Can Save Your Dog’s Life

Man’s best friend is known to rescue lives but when your dog is at risk the only chance he may have to survive is your quick and effective response. Accidents happen and there is no time to wait, which is why prior preparation and putting steps in place could assure your four legged friend’s protection. Dog-lovers now have an opportunity to learn how to manage emergency situations with confidence, thanks to Tom Losch, President and owner of Sleepy Hollow based Trinity CPR, AED & First Aid Solutions.

According to the American Animal Hospital Association, 92% of pets will experience an emergency in their lifetime but 25% could be revived if someone applied at least one first-aid technique. Performing CPR and First Aid could be administered to save their life.

Participants of the "Dog Care First Aid and CPR" class will learn the necessary skills to administer pet first aid and CPR within one session. The class will be held at 11 a.m. on April 16, at Four Leg Pets, 133 East Higgins Road in Gilberts. Attendees will get a lifetime certification after one class; with no future renewal required.

"The class teaches skills on how to take care of your pet, in case of an emergency before going to the vet," Losch said.

In the hands-on class you will learn the normal physical behaviors and habits of your pet, plus, practice CPR, administer pet first aid, care for a choking pet, deal with shock in the extreme Chicago cold and hot temperatures, manage breathing or cardiac emergencies, and how to prepare for disasters. Each class lasts for about 2 hours. No dogs are allowed in the class. Registration is required; please call 224-484-8478.
