Dundee-Crown Tutoring Named High School Program of the Year

The National Tutoring Association honored the school's program at its annual conference in Anchorage, Alaska.

Earlier this month, the National Tutoring Association (NTA) recognized Dundee-Crown High School’s tutoring program as the High School Program of the Year at its 19th annual conference in Anchorage, Alaska.

Dundee-Crown tutoring program director, Stephanie Reed, said that award is the result of the hard work and dedication of every tutor in the program.

“It is rewarding to help students help others,” Reed said. “The national recognition is great, and we are proud, but what means the most to us are the daily progress students make because of tutoring

The tutoring program at Dundee-Crown is designed to seek out students who need academic support and provide help in a variety of ways.  Students who need tutoring help can visit the tutoring center at almost any time of the day, including after school.  Tutors in the program also work with teachers and provide support during classes.  Peer tutors in the program receive intensive training many times during the semester so they can improve their ability to help other students.

The organization also awarded Dundee-Crown senior Maksym Levchenko with the Blair Richard High School Tutor of the Year, which included a $1000 scholarship.

Reed said the Levchenko was very deserving of the award.

“He has been a tutor for two years, and even when he is not expected to be tutoring, he tutors. He cares about other students and he cares about learning.”

Levchenko, who plans to attend the University of Illinois (Champaign-Urbana) next year, said he was honored by the recognition, and pleased to be recognized for something he loves to do.

“I have grown so much by being a part of the program," Levchenko said. "Tutoring is a part of my life. I know it may sound weird, but I don’t do it for the credit, I come in for fun. It feels good.”
