District 47 Superintendent Donn Mendoza Resigns

No reason given for Superintendent Donn Mendoza's resignation.

School District 47 Superintendent Donn Mendoza resigned Thursday, the Northwest Herald reports. The decision was based on discussions between the District 47 School Board and Mendoza.

Dr. Mendoza was in the midst of a five-year contract set to expire in June 2016.


The reason for the resignation was not disclosed. Mendoza earned $167,225 this school year. Per his resignation agreement, he will receive a severance package that includes two months pay, about $27,870, and health insurance for his family through 2014, according to the Herald.

Last fall, a Crystal Lake Police officer received a three-day suspension after he found Mendoza sleeping in the back seat of a Honda Pilot at 2:30 a.m. Sept. 9, on Autumn Drive. The car was parked seven houses down from Mendoza's home.

After Patch posted an article about the incident, which received more than 100 comments from Patch readers, a District 47 employee said the district blocked employees' access to Crystal Lake-Cary Patch from school computers.

Access was not blocked to the Northwest Herald, the employee said.
