The board made the appointment during a special meeting held Monday night, said board president Jeff Mason.

“The Board has a great amount of confidence in Kathy’s ability to lead the district.  She brings with her years of experience in the district, and she enjoys a close working relationship with parents, staff and the board,” Mason said.

Dr. Hinz was appointed to Acting Superintendent of Schools on June 6, following the resignation of Dr. Donn Mendoza. The reason behind Mendoza's departure was not released.

Prior, Dr. Hinz was the District 47 Assistant Superintendent of Student Services and Professional Development, a position she has held since January 2010.

Dr. Hinz has been employed by District 47 since August of 2000. She holds both a Superintendent Endorsement (2010 to present) and a Special Education Director Endorsement (2004 to present).

Dr. Hinz presently earns $115,798 as Assistant Superintendent.  As Interim Superintendent, she will be paid $139,198, according to the news release.

In order for Dr. Hinz to be able to fulfill her additional duties as Interim Superintendent, Dr. Hinz and the Board agreed to review the reassignment or delegation of certain existing duties currently assigned to Dr. Hinz as the Assistant Superintendent of Student Services and Professional Development.

“I am honored to be given this chance to lead the district," Dr. Hinz said. "I look forward to working with the various employee groups, reaching out to the community, and working closely with the Board to further enhance the many quality programs we provide for our children."
