District 300 Gets $4.4 Million Surprise From State

Some District 300 school board members are wary of the promise of more state aid as such aid has been an unreliable source of funds in the past, according to the Daily Herald.

District 300 will get $4.4 million more than expected in state aid — a welcome surprise for the school district that two weeks earlier was dealing with a $2 million deficit in its 2013-14 budget, according to the Daily Herald.

The state aid allotment is based on a formula that provides more money per student to districts with less money, which could amount to an additional $200 per student this school year, according to the article.

Growing enrollment along with a decrease in property values within District 300 has caused financial difficulties for the district, according to the Daily Herald.
