District 158 Seeks Reading Volunteers

The district is looking for adults, other than Martin Elementary School parents, to read to third, fourth and fifth grade students on a weekly basis.

We’ve all heard the phrase, “It takes a village to raise a child,” and staff members at Martin Elementary School are extending an offer to the community in search of adults to become a partner in education by signing up as reading volunteers.

“We’re looking for adults, other than current Martin parents, to read on a weekly basis with our 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students,” said Assistant Principal Matt Webster. “Volunteers are welcome between 9:00 and 10:00 a.m., 11:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m., and 1:00 to 2:00 p.m.”

Reading volunteers will be assisting with individual students and small groups using preplanned reading activities provided by classroom teachers.

“As a teacher I always valued and appreciated the added assistance and increased quality of education that volunteers provided to my students. As an Assistant Principal, I still recognize and value the role of volunteers and eagerly welcome those that wish to be a part of the learning community at Martin,” said Webster.

There’s no better way to warm up during these winter months than to join us in helping our students flourish as young readers.
