District 155: Tentative Agreement Reached with Teachers Union

District 155 says it has reached a three-year agreement with the District 155 Education Association.

The Community High School District 155 Board of Education announced late Friday afternoon a tentative agreement has been reached with the teachers union.

The high school district stated in a news release it has reached a three-year agreement with the union, District 155 Education Association.

The 440 teachers and the District 155 Board of Education each must approve the terms of the new contract at upcoming meetings. The union is expected to meet on Jan. 17, and the school board is scheduled to meet Jan. 21, the news release stated.

If approved, the tentative pact will be retroactive to July 1, 2013, and expire on June 30, 2016. Terms of the agreement will be released once the contract has been ratified by the two parties.

“This tentative agreement will allow us to recognize our excellent teaching staff,” said superintendent Dr. Johnnie Thomas. “Though these negotiations were lengthy, neither side ever lost focus on the end-goal of serving our students and community.”

Teachers union president Justin Hubly said the new contract will allow District 155 to continue to meet the needs of students and the community.

“This tentative contract represents the tireless efforts of so many teachers and administrators, and is fair for all the stakeholders we serve," Hubly said.

Community High School District 155 is comprised of four high schools including Cary-Grove, Crystal Lake Central, Crystal Lake South, and Prairie Ridge, and an alternative education center, Haber Oaks.

The district serves nearly 7,000 students from several cities throughout McHenry and Lake counties.
