District 155 Teachers Approve New Contract Agreement

The District 155 teachers union on Thursday voted in favor of the tentative contract agreement with the District 155 Board of Education.

The District 155 Education Association held a meeting Jan. 17, and ratified the tentative contract between the association and the board, according to DEA president Justin Hubly.

The new contract will run retroactively from July 1, 2013, through June 30, 2016.

The teachers' final vote was 268-114, Hubly said.

The District 155 Board of Education is expected to vote on the agreement Tuesday, Jan. 21. Details of the deal will be released once the board has approved it, Hubly said.

“There was a great deal of compromise on both sides in reaching this agreement,” Hubly said. “While our membership may not be completely satisfied with the agreement, the ratification vote demonstrates our teacher’s commitment to students in that there will not be a work stoppage over the course of the next three years.”
