The girls' team finished in 18th place overall, and Seth Conroy reached the medal stand as well, finishing in 23rd place overall.

On October 8, the Heineman Middle School Boys and Girls Cross Country teams competed in the IESA Sectional meet at McHenry Middle School.  The girls’ team of Kate Mitchell, Amanda Andrews, Lindsey Ferguson, Halle Kopp, Abbey Molaski, Elizabeth Raclawski, and Heather Baldacci won the championship in the 13 team field, qualifying them for the state meet. Amanda Andrews was the sectional champion, followed closely by Kate Mitchell. Although the boys team did not qualify for the state meet, members Seth Conroy and Matt Kapolnek qualified as individuals by finishing fourth and eleventh respectively overall.

At the IESA State meet held on October 15 at Maxwell Park in Normal, Illinois, girls’ team member Kate Mitchell medaled by finishing in 9th place overall. Kate’s finish time of 12:06 is the best ever finish at the state meet by a female cross country runner from Heineman.  The girls’ team finished in 18th place overall. In the boys’ race, Seth Conroy reached the medal stand as well, finishing in 23rd place overall. Medals were awarded to the top 25 finishers in each race. Seth completed the course in 10:57.

Congratulations go out to all the athletes for their determination and spirit in representing their school and community. We would also like to congratulate Coach Monson and Coach Litchfield for their hard work and dedication throughout the season.
