CL Mayor Asks District 155 to Stop Work on Bleachers and Obtain Zoning Approval

Crystal Lake Mayor Aaron Shepley sends letter to District 155 School Board president Ted Wagner asking that construction on new stadium at Crystal Lake South High School stop.

The City of Crystal Lake and Community High School District 155 are at odds regarding ongoing construction of the new $1.18 million bleachers at Crystal Lake South High School.

The city has requested school officials present their plans for the project and proceed through the normal application and review process needed for zoning variances, storm sewer permits and a height variation request for the size of the new stands.

Community High School District 155 officials maintain they obtained the necessary permit to install new bleachers and move the Home stands to the opposite side of the football field from McHenry County Regional Superintendent of Schools Leslie Schermerhorn.

The west side of the field is adjacent to houses on Amberwood Drive, and residents closest to the new 51-foot-tall structure object to its size, appearance, and potential safety concerns.

The attached document is a letter from Crystal Lake Mayor Aaron Shepley to District 155 Board of Education president Ted Wagner, asking that the district cease construction on the new bleachers and pursue zoning approval and stormwater permits from the city.
