Algonquin Senior Named Golden Apple Scholar

Golden Apple Scholar Emily Caliendo of Algonquin will attend Xavier University.

It’s not an easy feat to accomplish, but Algonquin is home to one 2012 Golden Apple Scholars of Illinois.

Dundee-Crown High School Senior Emily Caliendo of Algonquin was among only 130 students selected for this prestigious honor from more than 1,000 nominees.

According to the Golden Apple Scholars website, the program “recruits and prepares a diverse group of bright and talented high school graduates and college sophomores who have the promise for successful careers as excellent teachers in high-need schools throughout Illinois.”

Part of the Golden Apple Scholars program requires students to attend a summer institute.

Caliendo will be attending St. Xavier University.
