Winners of LITH Poster Contest Announced; Village to Host Arbor Day Event

Two area girls will be presented with savings bonds during a Thursday Village Board meeting for placing first and second in the village of Lake in the Hills Arbor Day Poster Contest.

The village of Lake in the Hills selected the drawings created by two area girls as the winners of a Arbor Day poster contest.

The first place winner, Veronica Buchweitz, was awarded a $150 savings bond, and the second place winner, Haydee Mata, won a $100 savings bond, according to a village of Lake in the Hills press release.

The theme for the second annual poster contest was "Trees are Terrific from Acorn to Oak." Children ages 9 to 11 years old submitted their hand-drawn posters.

Buchweitz and Mata will be presented their awards during Thursday's Village Board Meeting.

The village will also be hosting an Arbor Day celebration at 1 p.m. Friday at , according to the news release.

During that time, a tree will be planted, and two Lincoln Prairie Elementary students will read the Arbor Day proclamation during the ceremony, according to the press release. Refreshments will be served by village staff.
