White House Answers Local Man's Question on Keeping Jobs in U.S.

A clever question by one Lake in the Hills resident caught the attention of the White House administration in recent weeks. 

Steve Dessent of Lake in the Hills submitted his question for President Barack Obama as part of a call-out from Patch.com in January. The White House asked Patch.com to extend an invitation to readers and in turn agreed to respond to the best questions from across the nation. 

Keep in mind, there are more than 800 Patch sites nationwide. Seven questions were selected, including Dessent's.

And video responses from White House administration were provided — including the one above from Jason Furman, principal deputy director for the National Economic Council, in response to Dessent's question. 

Dessent's question for the president was: 

"In the 1980s we shipped manufacturing jobs overseas. Now in the 21st century we’re shipping service and IT jobs overseas. What is being done about the loss of jobs overseas particularly in the IT field? If we keep shipping jobs overseas what are we supposed to do for work in this country?"

Furman responds by saying: 

The president is actually very focused on what we can do to stop incentives for outsourcing and to actually encourage companies to start bringing jobs back to America and to really insource them here. We can't stop every job from leaving our shores but what we can do is stop every tax incentive that the government currently gives to companies to locate those jobs overseas.
