Village Provides Information on Airport Hangar Fees

The village's airport newsletter sent out this week calculated a private hangar with a 20 amp, 110 volt service would pay about $25 per month.

The Lake in the Hills Village Board of Trustees during its Thursday meeting voted to implement an electric fee for private hangars at the Lake in the Hills Airport.

The village of Lake in the Hills provided the following information in its airport newsletter Tuesday on the electric fee:

A recent review of electrical charges identified an issue with service to private hangars.

Rates for hangar owners paying for their own electricity have not been increasing and electrical consumption by private hangar users is consuming about $22,000 a year.    

On June 9, the Village Board of Trustees approved implementing an electrical service fee to private hangars supplied by Airport electrical service effective January 1, 2012.

The fee will not be charged to hangars paying for their own electricity. The fee will be calculated on a hangars fair share of the electricity used, based on the size of the circuit breaker supplying the hangar. 

Common user costs, such as the beacon, runway lights, PAPIs, and area lighting, will not be included in the fee.  The fee will be determined as part of the budget process and will be fixed through the year. 

An idea of what the fee would be was calculated using 2010 electrical costs. A hangar with a 20 amp, 110 volt service would pay about $25 per month.
