“Algonquin’s GIS clearly plays a large role in the Village’s business process and operations,” stated Fred Kreutzfeldt, an Account Manager with ESRI.  “The Special Achievement in GIS Award recognizes Algonquin’s utilization of GIS to enhance communication, collaboration, operational efficiency, and customer service.”

GIS has been used by Algonquin for over a decade.  Algonquin also holds the distinction of being the first municipality in Kane and McHenry Counties to deploy a public GIS interactive map.  In 2008, the Village received a Mobile Government Demonstration Project grant from ESRI to purchase tablet computers with software to aid Public Works staff with access to infrastructure data while performing field operations.

“GIS offers a cost-effective way to manage our operations,” stated Village President John Schmitt.  “It’s used heavily by all operating departments to manage data and make informed decisions.”

Algonquin's GIS is designed to provide constituents, businesses, Village staff, and public agencies with an easy access tool to find GIS information, which is available online at www.algonquin.org/GIS.

ESRI is an international supplier of Geographic Information System (GIS) software and geodatabase management applications; they are based in Redlands, Calif.
