Village of Algonquin Offers Free Spring Cleanup in April

Waste Management will offer special waste pickup dates on Saturdays in April to assist families with spring cleaning.

The once again is helping residents out with their spring cleaning this season.

The village along with Waste Management is sponsoring its annual cleanup program for single-family homes and townhomes that receive residential refuse and recycling services. The effort is intended to encourage residents to spruce up their neighborhoods and reduce fire hazards in their homes, according to a village press release. 

The program will include special Saturday waste pickup dates in April, yard-waste collection and spring hydrant flushing.

The village of Algonquin will provide special waste pickup days on Saturdays in April.

All items must be curbside by 7 a.m. on your cleanup date. The cleanup dates are as follows:

  • East portion of Algonquin: April 14
  • Central: April 21
  • West: April 28

The village's website provides a map detailing the locations and spring cleanup dates.

Typical items to be discarded include toys, old clothes, couches, beds, dressers, grills and patio furniture. Items that will not be collected include automobile parts, landscape waste, white goods and construction materials. 

Yard Waste Collection Resumes on Monday

Waste Management will resume yard-waste collection on April 2 for all village of Algonquin households that receive curbside refuse and recycling collection services.

The village also will provide free collection of leaves and branches from April 2 through April 27.

The branches must be tied in bundles, not be more than 4 feet by 2 feet in diameter and not exceed 50 pounds, according to the village's press release. The leaves must be placed in a standard paper yard waste bag or reusable container that is clearly marked with a red "x."

Residents can place the bags or cans at the curb on their regular pickup dates. Leaves in piles will not be collected.

Grass clippings and other yard waste will require a collection sticker. Contact waste management at 1-800-796-9696 with any questions. 

Spring Hydrant Flushing

As part of a standard maintenance practice, the village of Algonquin's utility division flushes all its fire hydrants twice a year.

The purpose is to make sure the hydrants are working properly and to move fresh water through the distribution system to improve overall water quality, according to the news release. 

If the weather permits, the spring hydrant flushing schedule will be as follows: 

April 2 to April 8: The entire area east of Main Street (Route 31). This area includes the Arrowhead subdivision, Jefferson Street, Railroad Street and Washington Street.

April 9 to April 15: The area north of Edgewood Drive, east of Hanson Road, south of Algonquin Road and west of Main Street (Route 31). 

April 16 to April 22: The area south of Edgewood Drive and County Line Road, west of Main Street (Route 31) and east of Randall Road.

April 23 to April 29: The area east of Randall Road, south of Algonquin, west of Hanson Road and north of County Line Road. This includes Randall Road.

April 30 to May 6: The area west of Square Barn Road to the village limits.

May 7 to May 18: The area east of Square Barn Road, west of Randall Road and south of Algonquin Road.
