Village Board OKs Weekend Flea Market

Village Board of Trustees also approved plans for the relocation of the Algonquin-Lake in the Hill Interfaith Food Pantry to a pole barn on a Pyott Road property.

The Lake in the Hills Village Board unanimously approved a proposal for a flea market last week.

The weekend flea market is slated to be located on land owned by developer Ray Plote on the west side of Illinois Route 31 about a half-mile south of Rakow Road.

Ryan T. Trottier, vice president of land development for Plote Homes LLC, told trustees during the Thursday board meeting that the flea market initially would have about 170 parking spaces on about 2 1/2 acres. If the flea market is a success, 15 additional acres on the Plote-owned property could be made available for parking.

"I think it could be wildly popular and you may need more space," Trustee Paul Mulcahy told Trottier.

Mulcahy said he was on the fence whether he would vote in favor of the flea market because plans submitted by Plote showed designated parking spaces. Mulcahy said he was disappointed to learn that parking spaces would not be marked.
