Smoking Banned at LITH Parks Starting This Summer

Starting this summer, smoking will be banned in Lake in the Hills parks and play areas within those parks.

The village board approved the ban at parks within 15 feet of any play area or shelter. A play area includes playgrounds, athletic courts, public beaches, sports fields, skate parks, the disc golf course, Splash Pad, and the Bark Park, according to the Lake in the Hills Resident Insider newsletter.

The tobacco-free parks initiative includes the ban of smokeless tobacco products as well as cigarettes, cigars, and pipes, according to the newsletter.

The village of Lake in the Hills received grant money from the McHenry County Department of Health to install signs at all parks, mail reminder postcards regarding the smoking ban to all residents and businesses and pay for other costs associated with the "We Choose Health" initiative, according to the resident newsletter.

"The village of Lake in the Hills is doing their part to reduce the impact of some of the leading causes of death, disability and rising healthcare costs," according to the resident newsletter.
