Recycle Holiday Lights at Algonquin Village Hall

As residents prepare to hang holiday lights this year, there is inevitably some lights that will not work. 

Instead of throwing the lights in the trash, the village of Algonquin is encouraging residents to put them in a bag and bring the lights to the Ganek Municipal Center, 2200 Harnish Drive in Algonquin, according to a village of Algonquin news release. 

The Village of Algonquin will be offering holiday lights recycling now through January 21 with a container for your unwanted lights available in the Ganek Municipal Center lobby during normal business hours, according to the news release. 

This is the village’s third year providing this service to its residents and has collected over 900 pounds in the previous two years of the holiday lights collection, according to the press release. 

Items that will be accepted include mini-lights, C7 and C9 bulbs, rope lights, LED lights, and extension cords of any length.  

Residents should remove all tinsel, garland, and other decoration items from the light sets before they are dropped off.  Vintage Tech Recyclers will recycle the light sets collected at Village Hall and help Algonquin reduce waste sent to landfills.

Please note that household light bulbs, floodlights, compact fluorescent bulbs (CFLs) or fluorescent bulbs will not be accepted.  Additional information is available online at www.algonquin.org.
