Primary Election Filings for LITH Residents

Here is who will be on your ballot for the March 20 primary election if proposed legislative maps are enacted.

Are you wondering which districts and candidates will be on the ballot for you for the primary election on March 20, 2012? 

New boundaries for legislative maps were drawn up in June, which means some districts have changed the area in which the candidates running for those seats will represent. 

The proposed maps were challenged in court. On Wednesday, an appeals panel of three federal judges rejected final arguments put forth by state Republicans against the new General Assembly maps, which Gov. Pat Quinn  in June, according to a Chicago Tribune article.

Filings for several candidates in the McHenry County primary election ended Monday. Under the new legislative maps, County Clerk Katherine Schulz told Patch Lake in the Hills residents should see the following races on its ballot:

The 33rd senate district will consist of a three-way race between three Republican candidates: Karen McConnaughay, R-St. Charles, Cliff Surges, R-Gilberts and Craig Powers, R-Geneva. 

The 26th senate district candidates include Amanda Howland, D-Lake Zurich, and Dan Duffy, R-Lake Barrington. 

Incumbent Michael Tryon, R-Crystal Lake, will be running unopposed in the 66th representative district. Formerly the state representative for the 64th district, Tryon will be running in the newly-formed 66th district under proposed legislative map changes

The 52nd representative district is a three-way race between three Republicans: Kent Gaffney of Lake Barrington, David McSweeney of Barrington Hills and Danielle Rowe of Island Lake.  who died suddenly . 

Michael Tryon, R-Crystal Lake, will run unopposed in the 66th district. Tryon was first elected to the Illinois House of Representatives in November 2004.

The filing period for the primary election for congressional districts was delayed due to an ongoing lawsuit over the new legislative maps, drawn and approved by Democrats in June. .

According to the Northwest Herald, "all announced Republican candidates for countywide office – Auditor Pam Palmer, Circuit Clerk Katherine Keefe, Coroner Anne Majewski, Recorder Phyllis Walters, and State’s Attorney Lou Bianchi – do not have primary or election challengers."
