Low Voter Turnout in Algonquin

At 3:40 p.m. 63 out of 1,225 registered voters showed up to the library's precinct.

Update 11 p.m.: As of 10 p.m., McHenry County Clerk Katherine Schultz reported a voter turnout of 11.44 percent in McHenry County.

Algonquin Patch visited three out of the 15 McHenry County polling locations in the village of Algonquin. Workers described the day as slow and anticipated low turnout.

The McHenry County Clerk had to decide today's race.

68th Precinct—Algonquin Area Public Library

As of 3:40 p.m. there had been 63 voters who cast their vote, said Nick Corso, a polling judge at Algonquin Area Public Library. He said there were 1,225 individuals registered for that particular precinct.

120 more voters would need to show up to reach 15 percent of the precinct's registered voters.

43rd Precinct—New Algonquin Village Hall

As of 4:35 p.m. there were 70 votes cast at this location out of the possible 1,1114 registered voters, said Ild Castellanos, a polling judge. Castellanos' son, Bob Waddell, was also working at the polls.

"It's a 16-hour day for us," said Liane Ponsolle, an Algonquin resident and polling judge. "We got here at 5 a.m. and won't be done until 8 tonight."

Also working at this location was Alexandra Cascone, a 16-year-old Crystal Lake South student. She said she got the day off school and will be collecting more than a $100 for working the polls today.

1st Precinct—Old Algonquin Village Hall

As of 5 p.m. there were 49 votes cast at this location out of the possible 623 registered voters.
