LITH Survey Meant to Gauge Quality of Life

Lake in the Hills residents can take the online survey to let village officials know how they feel about where they live.

How would you rate your quality of life in Lake in the Hills?

And how do your expectations of the village rank when it comes to economic vitality, village services and public safety?

These questions and more appear on a recent survey posted on the village of Lake in the Hills website meant to gauge residents’ feedback and opinions on where they live.

The survey, which is made possible through an online application called Survey Monkey, isn’t the first of its kind for Lake in the Hills. But it’s the first time residents are being asked about the quality of life in the village, said Shannon Andrews, Lake in the Hills assistant village administrator.

Survey Monkey offers instant results, but the village will not release any specific numbers for responses to questions until the survey is pulled off-line, which will be after this month.

As of Tuesday, there were 102 responses, Andrews said. The survey has been online since Sept. 2. Filters on the system generally allow for just one response per household.

The village has a population of 28,965 and more than 9,000 households.

Parks and Recreation Director Trudy Wakeman said she’s used results from Survey Monkey in the past to make changes in her department.

Because of suggestions from residents, the village started offering more evening classes for working parents and started offering swimming lessons on the weekend.

She added that survey information also was used to make some minor changes to the village’s triathlon and 5K race.

Trustee Ray Bogdanowski said he has yet to take the online survey but will.

“For the quality-of-life question, I’m marking ‘excellent,’ ” Bogdanowski said. “I’ve lived here 28 years, raised my kids here and they love coming back here.”
