LITH Hockey Tournament Returns

Third annual tournament will be held at Woods Creek Lake Saturday, Jan. 19.

Get ready to cheer on your favorite team at Lake in the Hills Parks & Recreation’s Pond Hockey Tourney on Jan. 19.

Teams interested in registering should act quickly because the tournament is almost full. The village is also looking for officials.

This year’s tournament begins at 8 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 19 at Woods Creek Lake.

All the games have two 15-minute (running clock) halves with a two-minute halftime.

The winning team will be honored on the ice during the national anthem at the Feb. 17 Chicago Wolves game.

Last year’s tournament was cancelled due to the unseasonably warm weather. The first tournament, held in 2011, drew 12 teams. Village Administrator Gerald Sagona got the idea for a tournament after talking with his dentist and learning about national pond hockey tournaments.
