Is There a Toll Hike Ahead?
The Daily Herald reports the Illinois tollway faces a $1 billion gap for highway maintenance needs and is looking at spending billions for new construction.
An advisory group commissioned by Gov. Pat Quinn recently released a report suggesting an increase in tolls may be needed to pay for future roadwork in the area, according to the Daily Herald.
There have been no formal talks on a toll increase.
At the same time, the Illinois State Toll Highway Authority recently finished up its forums on its 10-year capital plan. There has been no formal vote on that plan, according to the Daily Herald.

The last toll hike occurred in 2005 when the rates doubled for those paying cash, according to the article.
