Years of contention, lawsuits and disputes between township officials have apparently drawn the attention of residents wanting to step up and serve.
Unlike many other local races - which don't have enough candidates - the Grafton Township ballot is packed for the Feb. 26 Primary and the April 9 Consolidated Election.
Here are the candidates:
- Linda Moore, of Huntley, Incumbent
- of Huntley
- Marty Waitzman, of Algonquin
- Jim Kearns, of Huntley
Moore, Fender and Waitzman will be the first to battle for the Grafton Supervisor position in the Feb. 26 Republican Primary Election. The winner will face Kearns in the April 9th Consolidated Election, said Harriet Ford, Grafton Township Clerk.
- Tom Poznanski, of Lake in the Hills
- Rick Dvorak, of Crystal Lake
- Tim Hoeft
Poznanski and Dvorak will face each other in the Republican Primary. The winner will then proceed to run against Hoeft on April 9, Ford said.
- William Ottley, Jr., Incumbent
- of Lakewood
- Terra Jensen
Ottley and Zielinski will face each other in the Republican Primary on Feb. 26. The winner will face Jensen in the April 9th election.
Trustee - 4 positions
- Betty Zirk, of Huntley, Incumbent
- Carol Williams, of Lakewood
- Robert Wagner, of Crystal Lake
- Marci Gordon, of Huntley
- Dan Ziller, Jr.
- Tammy Lueth
- Joseph Holtorf, of Sun City, Huntley
Zirk, the only township trustee seeking re-election, Williams and Wagner are each running for the four trustee positions in the Republican Primary. With an obvious win there, the three will advance to face Gordon, Ziller, Lueth and Holthorf in the April 9th election.
No candidates are running
The elected Township board will appoint an applicant to the position after the elections.
Ford was appointed as clerk more than three years ago and has decided not run again.
Early voting starts Feb. 11, and voters do not have to be registered as Republicans to vote in the Feb. 26 Primary Election, she said.
Grafton Township serves 45,427 people in a 36-square-mile region. The township serves residents living in parts of Algonquin, Lake in the Hills, Huntley, Crystal Lake and Lakewood.
