Area Kids Design Postcards for Military; Goddard Targets Bullying

The Goddard School in Lake in the Hills hosted a weeklong celebration aimed at bully prevention.

 took a step this week toward helping the community's youth understand and prevent bullying. 

The weeklong Community Games at  focused on activities at the day care facility that encouraged "playful learning" and building friendship as a way to play well together, accept each other's differences and prevent bullying. 

A part of the activities included designing postcards to be sent to military members during a morning class Thursday at , according to an email from Nick Powills, chief brand strategist for Goddard.

"... A part of teaching children how to increase self-esteem through friendship is a great start to preventing them from becoming bullies or being bullied in the future," according to Powills. 

One in four children is bullied, according to Stompoutbullying.org.

“Bullying happens every day — even right here in our own community. ... Prevention must begin early, in both our teachings and practices," said Michele Clark, owner of in Lake in the Hills.
