McHenry County Candidates Begin to File for Primary Election

The filing period started at 8 a.m. Monday and will continue through 5 p.m. Dec. 5.

Filing started Monday for candidates for McHenry County Board, other county offices and precinct committeemen at stake in the March 2012 primary election.

Several candidates showed up at 8 a.m. Monday to the McHenry County Clerk's Office to be the first to file petitions for candidacy. The filing period will continue through 5 p.m. Dec. 5.

Candidates will be listed on the ballot in the order they file, meaning those who file earliest will appear toward the top of the ballot, while those filing closer to the deadline for a race with multiple candidates will appear toward the bottom of the ballot.

If several candidates for a particular race file at the same time, there will be a lottery held after Dec. 5 to determine where their names will appear on the ballot.

The primary election will be held March 20, 2012.
