FEMA Increases LITH Flood Insurance Rating

The change means the village and its residents can qualify for a 20 percent discount in premiums for flood insurance for NFIP policies issued or renewed in special flood hazard areas.

The Department of Homeland Security, Federal Emergency Management Agency, has increased the insurance class for the village of Lake in the Hills to a Class 6 in the National Flood Insurance Program Community Rating System.

The floodplain management activities implemented by the village qualify the village and its residents for a 20 percent discount in the premium cost of flood insurance for NFIP policies issued or renewed in special flood hazard areas.

As a result of this revision, the village of Lake in the Hills has the best NFIP rating and the greatest flood insurance savings within McHenry County. Additionally, the village is rated as one of the top 17 communities in the state for flood preparedness.

Sandra K. Knight, FEMA’s deputy associate administrator for mitigation, states, “I commend you on your community actions and your determination to lead your community to be more disaster resistant. This commitment enhances public safety, property protection, and protects the natural functions of floodplains, and reduces flood insurance premiums.”
