Federal Money to Pay for Bridge Over Randall

Algonquin was awarded $3.7 million in federal transportation funding to build a pedestrian bridge over Randall Road and install a new bike trail along Edgewood Drive.

Of the total amount, $3.2 million will be spent on the pedestrian crossing that will connect Golden Eagle Drive to Stonegate Road. Construction is expected to begin in 2015.

The remainder of the funding will be used to install a new trail along Edgewood Drive from Main Street to Hanson Road next year when the Edgewood Drive reconstruction project begins.

The Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality (CMAQ) Improvement Program allocated $411 million in federal transportation funds to the Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning (CMAP) for projects in the Chicago metropolitan area over the next five years.

Selected projects support the GO TO 2040 comprehensive regional plan’s goals for reducing congestion and improving air quality. Projects were selected and reviewed publicly by CMAP committees made up of transportation experts and stakeholders.

The Edgewood Drive trail and Randall Road pedestrian crossing both significantly enhance Algonquin’s trail system by increasing accessibility and mobility for bicyclists and pedestrians.
