Emergency Repairs at Two LITH Wells Needed

The village does not expect to have to restrict water usage in Lake in the Hills since there are still six other wells working.

Work crews are making emergency repairs at two well sites in Lake in the Hills.

The pump at a well on Wright Drive — which is located northwest of the intersection of Algonquin and Lakewood roads — has stopped working.

And the pumping capacity of the well at the Lake in the Hills Public Works site on Haligus Road has been steadily decreasing. It now only pumps 750 gallons per minute compared to its usual 1,100 gallons per minute. Village documents indicate there is a hole somewhere in the main pipe column.

“Unfortunately this has happened in the summer, during a season of high demand,” said Fred Mullard, the village’s public works director. “But we have enough capacity (six other wells that are operating)  so we don’t have to impose water restrictions. We have the capability to meet the demand.”

During a Tuesday night village board Committee of the Whole meeting, Mullard recommended trustees skip the competitive bidding process since the wells needed to be fixed promptly. Mullard said he would hire Layne Western out of Aurora to make repairs at both sites.

Trustees are expected Thursday night to approve spending $41,000 for the projects.
