Political party: Independent

What is the primary reason you are running for this office?

To continue our Village goals to insure a conservative yet balanced budget, our visions for our Downtown Development Plan, transportation plans, such as the Western Bypass, improving Randall Road traffic concerns, maintaining our roads and infrastructure and to continue an open dialogue with our residents.  All  making our Village of Algonquin a better community.

What will be your single most important priority if you get elected?

To work with our former Village Manager, Bill Ganek and our Village Staff towards a seamless transition with newly hired Village Manager, Tim Schloneger regarding the Village operations, finances, budget and budget constraints if necessary and all ongoing projects within the community.

What are the top three issues facing Algonquin residents?

1) Keeping our budget in line yet fiscally strong and tax rates minimal

2) Transportation; Western Bypass construction to minimize as much as possible its effects on our downtown community businesses, Randall Road improvements, and the Longmeadow Parkway Corridor/Bridge over the Fox River. As well as Village services, continued maintenance and improvements to our local roads.

3) Find the best vision towards our Downtown Redevelopment Plans that will attract more people to frequent current and new businesses, restaurants, and retail. And to continue to work hand in hand with our residents and businesses on issues concerning our community.

What sets you apart from the other candidates?

My 8 years experience as Village Trustee, my community service work with the Lions club, work related experiences at Siemens, and my passion to see Algonquin be one of the best community’s in our region.  I enjoy what I do as our trustee to serve our Village and its residents and I always make myself available to our residents questions or concerns.

What is your favorite thing about Algonquin? What is your least favorite thing about Algonquin?

The lifestyle and the many amenities that our Village offers such as shopping, restaurants, parks, the river, bike trails, etc.  The one aspect everyone traveling through Algonquin is concerned of, is traffic.  To which we are working to address this issue with both counties of Kane and McHenry.

What needs to be done with Riverside Plaza?

The new owner needs to get his financing in order to finish the inside of the building to open and attract residents to live in Algonquin with shops and businesses to utilize our downtown.

What is your hope for the future of downtown Algonquin? What needs to be done to make this happen?

My hope is Algonquin becoming a destination point for people to enjoy our town, its restaurants, retail and its amenities as well as having more Arts and Entertainment that can draw people to our community.  We also need to improve our traffic concerns and the Western Bypass will allow more people to frequent our downtown without the heavy traffic along the old route 31.

Overall, what does Algonquin need to do to attract more businesses in the future?

Our staff already have a plan and are working with developers directly to attract more businesses and residential on the east side of town as well as our industrial corridor west of Randall Road off of Boyer Road.

Do you think video gambling machines should be allowed in businesses in Algonquin?  I personally do not favor video gambling as I am concerned it may not be the right fit in our Village, however pending our staff’s recommendation on its guidelines and how it would be enforced I may consider.

Do you support a Continuous Flow Intersection at Randall and Algonquin roads? Why or why not?

As far as the CFI, I had the opportunity to visit the one in Loveland, Colorado and checking on the one in Missouri and was not impressed that this design will cure our problem plus it has a hefty price tag.  I am not a supporter of this plan as it stands.  Its footprint is massive and can have a negative impact on the businesses in both Algonquin and Lake in the Hills.  I favor a more conventional approach to improvement at Randall and Algonquin Roads as well as improvement at Huntington/Bunker Hill and Randall Roads.

What improvements, if any, would you like to see in the way village government is run in Algonquin?

As far as our community we have a exceptional staff handling our day to day business operations, solid plans and improvements on our future growth, we work hard to address our residents issues or concerns, and offer other means of communication through our website.  We keep an open board forum and will continue to serve the residents and work with its neighbors.
