Algonquin Village Board Notes: Ganek Gets Unique Honor

Retiring village manager gets a surprise at village board meeting.

Algonquin Village Manager William Ganek is winding down his tenure as village manager, but his name will forever be linked to the village.

Village officials announced the village hall will be renamed William J. Ganek Municipal Center.

Ganek has been village manager for more than 20 years and has been in government for 35 years. He will be sitting in for a few weeks as the village transitions into a new manager.

In other business, Starbucks, 1532 E. Algonquin Road, is getting a new monument sign, next door at Cubby’s Gyro’s.

Starbucks asked for a variation to the village sign code allowing it to install an off-site monument sign that is located next to Chubby’s. The sign was installed in 2007, but the businesses that requested have closed, staff said.

Chubby’s has its name on the monument and agreed to share it with Starbucks. The board approved the request.
