Algonquin's Spring Cleaning Round up
Just in time for Earth Day, village plans to clean streets and schedules environmentally friendly events.

On April 27, the police department will once again partner with the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) for National Take Back Day. Residents can clean out medicine cabinets and bring expired prescription drugs to the Algonquin police station between 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. that day. The drugs are properly disposed of, which helps protect the environment.
Public Works is planning on doing some of its own spring cleaning. Melting snow leaves a mess and often reveals debris on streets so Public Works will be collecting the trash and cleaning the streets, Director Robert Mitchard said. Additionally, crews will remove ash trees in the High Hill area that have been infected by emerald ash borer.

Finally, the village and Land Conservancy of McHenry County have joined together to sell rain barrels and tumbling composters on Algonquin’s website. Orders are due in early April and the items will be delivered in May at village hall.
Rain barrels are encouraged because they help Algonquin’s water conservation program. The rain barrels help residents collect rain water as an alternative source for watering landscaping which helps reduce the use of potable water, according to the village’s website.
