Algonquin Opens Village Hall as Cooling Center

Village of Algonquin has announced a local cooling center location for residents needed to escape from the heat.

With temperatures expected to reach 90 degrees Wednesday, the village of Algonquin has opened the Ganek Municipal Center as a cooling center.

Adding in humidity, the "feel-like" temperature will be 97 degrees, according to Weather.com, and forecasts call for continued heat for the remainder of the week.

In addition to the state of Illinois cooling centers, the Ganek Municipal Center ,2200 Harnish Drive, will be available as a cooling center Monday through Friday during normal business hours, according to the village of Algonquin's website.

As part of his Keep Cool Illinois campaign, the Gov. Patrick Quinn has made over 120 state facilities available as cooling centers. The cooling centers will provide Illinoisans a place to stay cool and comfortable during hot summer days.

 The state cooling center for McHenry County is located at 2215 Lake Shore Dr., Woodstock.

Tollway Oasis locations are open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Department of Human Services cooling centers are open during normal business hours from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.
