Algonquin, LITH Ice Rinks Open

The temperatures have finally dipped low enough for outdoor skating.

We all know it's really cold out but the chilly temperatures do have one advantage: outdoor ice skating.

Many of the outdoor ice rinks in Algonquin and Lake in the Hills have opened in recent days.

And with temps expected to stay well below freezing over the weekend before it jumps into the 40s next week — the next couple days could be a great time to lace up those skates and hit the ice.

There is some snow in the forecast Friday, which could affect the ice skating surface for area rinks.

Here is a list of parks where village rinks were open (as of Thursday afternoon):

  • Sunset Park, 5200 Miller Road in Lake in the Hills
  • Stoneybrook Park, 617 Anderson in Lake in the Hills
  • Snapper Field, 599 Longwood Drive in Algonquin
  • Willoughby Farms Park, 2001 Wynfield Drive in Algonquin

The ice skating rink at Cornish Park was not open as of Thursday afternoon, according to the village of Algonquin ice rink status web page.
