Algonquin Hires New Village Manager

The Algonquin Village Board OK'd an employment agreement for Timothy Schloneger during last night's meeting.

Algonquin will soon have a new village manager.

The Algonquin Village Board approved an employment agreement last night to hire Timothy Schloneger, the current city administrator for the city of Lockport, as the new village manager for Algonquin, said Michael Kumbera, Algonquin's assistant to the village manager. His annual salary will be $165,000.

Algonquin's current village manager, Bill Ganek, is expected to retire in the coming months. His last day with the village of Algonquin has not yet been determined.

During his time in Lockport, Schlonger worked closely with the financial management and economic development operations.

He is credited with developing financing for the city’s capital improvement program, improving Lockport’s bond rating and negotiating several development agreements to increase economic development opportunities along the Illinois Tollway’s I-355 expansion, according to a village of Algonquin press release.

“Tim is a well-rounded individual and has several strengths that will be of great value to Algonquin,” Village President John Schmitt said. “He’s experienced with transportation projects, economic development, and downtown revitalization which fit the vision of what the village board was looking for in the next village manager.”

Prior to his position in Lockport, Schlonger held municipal positions in Lemont and Romeoville. He is an active member of the International City/County Management Association and the Illinois City/County Management Association.

“I am impressed by the standard of excellence set by the Board members and staff,” Schloneger said. “I am looking forward to becoming part of such an energetic, proactive and visionary organization. It is clear that those serving in Algonquin care about the community and work well together.”

During the hiring process for a new village manager in Algonquin, the village board was looking for someone who could attract new businesses and jobs, help develop the Algonquin Corporate Campus and maintain the village’s current financial position.

The village board also wanted a village manager who could work with other agencies to improve regional transportation through Algonquin via the Illinois Route 31 Western Bypass, Randall Road and the Longmeadow Parkway Bridge Corridor in northern Kane County, according to the news release.

Schloneger is expected to start as the village manager in Algonquin in late February.

Current Village Manager William Ganek is slated to retire in early 2013 and will continue to work during the transition process
