Firefighters Memorial Considered for Riverfront Park

Algonquin's Village Board will vote tonight on whether to enter into an intergovernmental agreement with the fire protection district to erect the firefighters memorial.

The Algonquin Village Board will vote tonight on whether to move forward with constructing a firefighters memorial commemorating 9/11 at . 

The memorial would include a column from the World Trade Center, according to village documents. 

The village board will decide whether to enter into an intergovernmental agreement with the Algonquin/Lake in the Hills Fire Protection District to construct the memorial in a portion of Riverfront Park, according to village documents.

During a meeting on Aug. 14, Algonquin's Committee of a Whole voted to move the agreement on to a vote before the village board, which meets tonight. The village board meeting will start at 7:30 p.m. at village hall, 2200 Harnish Drive. 

If approved, the hope is to have the memorial up by September at , said village manager William Ganek during the Aug. 14 COW meeting.
