Original Story:

A barn fire at 16812 Kunde Road in an unincorporated area between Woodstock and Union is believed to have started by wet and dry hay spontaneously combusting, the Northwest Herald reports.

Shortly before 6:40 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 26, the Woodstock Fire Department was dispatched to the report of a possible barn fire. Upon arriving at the scene, the command unit initiated a MABAS Box alarm call, requesting assistance from 16 area fire departments. Tanker trucks were also brought in, and the fire was not struck until about 9 p.m., an eyewitness reported.

The 40-foot-tall, 150-foot-wide barn was engulfed in flames and ultimately destroyed by the fire. The barn contained about eight sheep, 12 roosters and chickens, 750 bales of hay weighing 100 pounds each, and machinery, the Herald reports. No one was in the barn, and several animals escaped safely. The contents were valued at $75,000.
