Two Teens Killed in Antioch Car Crash Monday Night

An Antioch boy and a Lindenhurst girl were killed in a car accident.

Update, Tuesday, Feb. 19:

The two teenagers who died in a car crash in Antioch Monday night have been identified, reported the Lake County News-Sun.

The victims are 16-year-old Joel Wittkamp, of Antioch, who was the driver, and 17-year-old Ashley Seay, of Lindenhurst, who was the passenger.

A 16-year-old boy and a 17-year-old girl were killed Monday night after their vehicle struck a tree in Antioch. Weather appears to be a contributing factor.

The crash occurred at approximately 7 p.m. Monday, Feb. 18, in the 27000 block of Wilmot Road in Antioch, according to a Lake County Sheriff's Office press release.

The driver was a 16-year-old male from Antioch. The passenger was a 17-year-old female from Lindenhurst. Both victims, whose names have not been released pending proper notification, were pronounced dead at the scene.

The teens were traveling westbound on Wilmot Road from Lake Street in a black 2007 Chevrolet Trailblazer when their vehicle left the road, went through a yard and hit a tree, reported the sheriff's office. The tree uprooted and partially landed on the vehicle.

The accident remains under investigation.
