Two Men Arrested in Rural Algonquin on Felony Drug Charges

Approximately 36 grams of cocaine and on-half gram of heroin were recovered during the investigation.

Two men have been arrested on felony drug charges after having made a drug deal with undercover detectives in rural Algonquin, according to a news release from the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office.

After a month-long undercover drug investigation, the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Unit arrested Terry L. Stegal, 21, of the 100 block of Howard Ave., East Dundee, in rural Algonquin after he sold an ounce of cocaine to an undercover detective. During the early part of the investigation, undercover detectives purchased cocaine on two separate occasions from Stegal.

Also arrested was James J. Porreca, 21, of the 35W200 block of Lathrop Lane, West Dundee, who drove Stegal to the drug deal and was in possession of trace amounts of cocaine, authorities said.

Stegal was charged with unlawful delivery of a controlled substance, a Class X felony; two counts of unlawful delivery of a controlled substance, a Class 1 felony; unlawful possession of a controlled substance, Class 1 felony; and three counts of unlawful possession of a controlled substance, a Class 4 felony.

Porreca was charged with a Class 4 felony, unlawful possession of a controlled substance.

About 36 grams of cocaine and one-half gram of heroin were recovered during the investigation. Authorities estimate the value of the drugs seized to be in excess of $1,400.
