2 Lake Zurich Schools Locked Down, Student Brings Weapon to School

Two schools in Lake Zurich District 95 were placed on lockdown Tuesday morning after a student brought a weapon to school.

From the Lake Zurich Police Department, Tuesday, Dec. 10, 4 p.m.:

The Lake Zurich Police Department received information at about 10:08 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 10, from a representative of Lake Zurich Middle School South that a student allegedly brought a weapon to the school.

The representative confronted the student regarding the allegation, and the student ran out of the office area while being questioned.

The student’s whereabouts were not immediately known, which prompted District 95 officials to put Lake Zurich Middle School South and Isaac Fox Elementary School into lockdown for the safety of students and staff.

Lake Zurich Police responded to Middle School South at 435 Cuba Road and initiated an investigation into the incident. A short time later, at about 10:40 a.m., the student was located by police while walking along Cuba Road and taken to the Lake Zurich Police Department.

Police and school officials worked together effectively to resolve the incident and the lockdown worked as intended to keep the students safe.

The Lake Zurich Police Department encourages all individuals to report any suspicious incidents to police and/or school officials. All incidents involving public safety are thoroughly investigated.

Statement from District 95 Supt. Mike Egan:

"While I am fully aware that this was a terrifying situation for many parents and also for some students, I want to point out that a situation such as this one is exactly why we have lockdown procedures."

"I am proud of our staff and students for their behavior today during this challenging situation, and I am also very appreciative of the service provided by the Lake Zurich Police Department in resolving this situation safely and quickly."
