Two Car Crash Victims Airlifted to Hospital, Two More Injured

Collision occurred Sunday afternoon on Route 12 in Richmond, the Chicago Tribune reports.

A head-on collision involving two cars on Route 12 in Richmond left four people injured on Sunday afternoon, the Chicago Tribune is reporting.

A Nissan Altima traveling southbound on Route 12 crossed the center line and struck a northbound Toyota Rav4 at about 3:20 p.m. in the area south of Hill Road, the Tribune reports. A third driver steered his/her car into the ditch to avoid hitting the other two cars.

Two occupants of the Toyota, a 12-year-old boy and a 43-year-old woman, were flown by helicopter to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville. Another occupant, an 18-year-old woman, was taken by ambulance to Centegra Northern Illinois Medical Center in McHenry, according to the Tribune article.

The driver of the Nissan, a 64-year-old man, had to be extricated from his car and also taken to Centegra. He was cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident and improper lane use, the Tribune reported.
