Teenager Struck by Car in Stable Condition

Teenager in stable condition after walking across Route 20 and being hit by a car on Friday, Oct. 4, 2013.

A 17-year-old boy is in stable condition after he  was hit by a car on Route 20 in unincorporated Marengo.

McHenry County Sheriff Keith Nygren said the accident occurred at about 3:46 p.m. Friday, Oct. 4, in the 19300 block of U.S. Route 20 near Marengo.

Preliminary investigation indicates a 2003 Cadillac North Star DHS was traveling westbound on Route 20. For unknown reasons, the 17-year-old boy entered the roadway from the south and was struck by the Cadillac in the westbound lane of travel, Nygren said in a news release.

The teen, whose name was not released because he is a minor, was thrown from the force of impact and landed in a yard north of the roadway, Nygren said. The boy was transported by Marengo Rescue to Sherman Hospital in Elgin, where he is listed in stable condition.

He was not within a designated crosswalk when the crash occurred, Nygren said.

The 49-year-old male driver of the Cadillac was not injured in the crash.

Members of the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office, Marengo Police, and Marengo Rescue and Fire Protection District responded to the scene.
