Teen Must Pay $20K for Barn Fire Damage

Andrew Wiegand was one of two Crystal Lake teenagers arrested in August 2012 in connection with several barn fires.

Crystal Lake teenager Andrew Wiegand, 17, admitted to setting barn fires last summer and must pay $20,000 in damages, the Northwest Herald reports. As part of a plea agreement, Wiegand will serve two years probation, 500 hours of public service, or 30 days in McHenry County Jail if he fails to meet the terms.
 
Wiegand, of 1472 Bridgedale Rd., and his co-defendent Joseph Gerdes, 18, 868 Coventry Ln., were arrested and charged with arson on Aug. 10, in connection with several barn fires set in the Woodstock, Marengo and Harvard area in July 2012.

The two teens must repay $39,255 in restitution for damage to the barns. The boys will split the amount. Gerdes has not accepted a plea deal, the Northwest Herald reports.
