Son Charged in Fatally Stabbing Mother in Johnsburg

Raymond E. Davis, 22, is accused of killing his mother, Carol C. Schritz, 58, Thursday afternoon outside Johnsburg.

A 22-year-old McHenry man is accused of stabbing his mother to death Thursday afternoon at 1007 Meadowlark Drive in Johnsburg, according to media reports and a sheriff's office press release. 

The McHenry County Sheriff's Office responded to the home after receiving a 911 call from the son, Raymond E. Davis, at 12:59 p.m. Thursday in rural Johnsburg, according to a McHenry County Sheriff's Office press release. 

Upon arrival, they found Davis's mother, Carol C. Schritz, 58, who apparently had suffered a stab wound and was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the news release. Davis and Schritz lived together at the home on Meadowlark in Johnsburg.

Davis is in custody at the McHenry County Correctional Facility and is charged with first-degree murder in the death of his mother. 

According to the Northwest Herald, Thursday's murder is the third time that charges have been brought against a son for murdering a parent or step-parent in McHenry County "in less than two years." Another incident took place in the Kane County portion of Algonquin in February 2010

The sheriff's office believes the stabbing death "is an isolated incident at this time and that the public is not in any immediate danger."
