Small Plane Makes Emergency Landing Outside Cary

A single-engine Beaver bush plane made an emergency landing Wednesday afternoon at Lyons Prairie and Marsh, just northeast of Cary, the Northwest Herald reports. 

Douglas Nealey, of Barrington, was piloting the plane and heading to DuPage County Airport at about 4:45 p.m. when the engine cut out, the Northwest Herald article states.

Nealey was able to make an emergency landing in a dried portion of the marsh, which is part of the Hickory Nut Grove Conservation Area, 500 Hickory Nut Grove Ln., owned by the McHenry County Conservation District.

Hickory Nut Grove is located northeast of Crystal Lake Road and South Rawson Bridge Road and borders the Fox River. The preserve is northeast of the village of Cary.

The Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board investigators are expected to begin investigating the crash landing on Thursday, the Northwest Herald reports.
